The Authors League Fund Centennial Celebration
The Authors League Fund celebrated its centennial with a cocktail party and fundraiser on September 12, 2017, at the New York Public Library’s Sue & Edgar Wachenheim III Trustees Room. We were joined by Jennifer Egan, Joshua Ferris, Daniel Handler, Margo Jefferson, Norman Rush, James B. Stewart, Peter Straub, Elizabeth Strout, and other friends.
Since 1917, the Authors League Fund has helped thousands of authors, dramatists, journalists, and poets enduring medical emergencies, temporary loss of income, or other misfortune. Many suffer severe health problems but have inadequate insurance; some face eviction; others are older writers whose income has ceased through no fault of their own. The Fund exists to help professional writers continue their careers, even their lives, with dignity by providing direct assistance for pressing expenses.
